LUNAA Legislative Seminar and Advocacy Day
Founded on March 12, 1897, Langston University is Oklahoma's only historically Black college or university (HBCU). Initially established as the Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University, it was created to provide educational opportunities for African Americans who were not allowed to attend other colleges in the state.
In 1922, Langston University faced significant challenges due to the socio-political climate of the time. Despite these obstacles, the university continued to grow and adapt, expanding its academic programs and infrastructure. The 1920s marked a period of resilience and determination for Langston University as it worked to provide quality education to its students amidst segregation and limited resources.
Over the years, Langston University has grown to include three campuses in Langston, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa, offering a range of programs through its six schools. The university continues to uphold its mission of providing access to higher education and fostering a supportive community for its students.
